The past four weeks has seen a flurry of announcements regarding the leadership of more NewCo markets. See below for a full list of market heads announced in July.
Canada – Ann Stewart
Ann Stewart, current CEO of Maxus Canada, will become CEO of the newly combined MEC and Maxus “NewCo” agency in Canada when it launches in January 2018.
Stewart is widely recognised in Canada as an innovative and engaged leader with 25 years of diverse media experience ranging from strategic planning to operations to buying and selling. She has been in the GroupM family for 12 years. Prior to joining GroupM, Stweart was a partner in the Brainstorm Group, a full service communications agency. Stewart graduated Humber College with a degree in Marketing, and is a graduate of the four-year CAPP program. She serves on the board of the Canadian Media Directors Council and is an active member of IAB, RCC and CMA. Stewart is also a former board member of NADbank.
Indonesia – Ajay Gupte
Ajay joined as Managing Director of MEC in Indonesia in 2011 and has created a strong, vibrant and future focused agency. The agency has grown six-fold under his leadership and has been awarded Campaign Asia Agency of the Year in 2014 and 2016. Ajay comes with almost 2 decades of experience as agency, client and media owner. In 2015, Ajay was listed in Campaign Asia 40 under 40 media professionals in Asia Pacific.
Bangladesh – Hasan Faruque
Hasan has been a client leader at Maxus since 2014. Hasan started his career in advertising at Asiatic JWT and later moved client side, working at AKTEL (Now Robi Axiata), GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare and BBC.
Throughout his agency career he has worked with brands like Unilever, Horlicks, Boost, Robi Axiata, BBC Janala, and also has managed high profile projects such as Close up-1, Lux Channel i Super Star, Horlicks Future Force, BBC Bangladesh Sanglap.
He has extensive expertise in Brand Marketing, Advertising, Sales, Market Research/Insights, Activation, Media Planning & Strategy, Media Research and Content marketing.
Sri Lanka – Namalie Herath
Namalie will lead a new team in the ‘NewCo’ agency which will include the very best talent from both MEC and Maxus.
Namalie has led MEC Sri Lanka since 2013, playing an instrumental role in transforming the business into a modern, digitally-led agency. She also steered MEC through its exponential growth in 2015 / 2016, adding a significant number of new clients to the agency’s portfolio.
Mexico – Hugo Gómez
Hugo Gómez has been CEO of Maxus Mexico since July 2010. Under his leadership the agency not only increased its client base, most recently winning the Scotiabank account, but also it has consistently performed as the Group’s most profitable agency in Latam. Since 2011 he has led Maxus to be among the top ten media agencies in the market, with Maxus being named in 2012 and 2013 by RECMA as the agency with the highest growth rate.
Prior to Maxus, Hugo was Mindshare’s COO and helped to win WPP’s first AMEX International Marketing Award in 2008. That year he led the Nestlé Unit, one of the biggest accounts of GroupM Mexico, to win an Effie Media Award and the best Mindshare client assessment.
Prior to his Mindshare experience, he worked for OMD as Latam Service Director for Fedex and Exxon. Currently, he is member of the board of the “Media Agencies Association”.
